CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

In this third edition of the international VariaR – Variation in Romance Languages conference, we continue to focus on institutional and scientific exchanges between researchers from different universities and countries. The theoretical focus is on the Construction Grammar framework understood as a diasystem. In terms of practice, the focus is on (inter)actions of corpus and database building.

The aim of this meeting is to promote dialogue between the theoretical and methodological approaches to phonological, morphological, syntactic, lexical and textual-discursive variation, as well as connections between them, in Portuguese in its various national and regional manifestations (Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, among others) and/or in other Romance languages and their varieties. In light of sociolinguistic, constructionist and functionalist theories, as well as studies on variation, linguistic change and multilingual contact, we hope to work together to understand and map varieties of Portuguese and other Romance languages, in order to establish a common knowledge base on contemporary dialectal variation. Proposals for papers/posters with a more transversal approach are also welcome.

This conference will therefore serve as a space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and research interests, for those engaged in the linguistic mapping of Portuguese or other Romance languages, focusing on the phenomena of variation and linguistic change. We therefore intend to gather information on the configuration of databases in the field of Lusophone and Romance linguistics.

In addition to the conference sessions, we plan to have paper and poster sessions.

A selection of articles will lead to the publication of a book and/or a journal issue.
